An OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) sends a light pulse down a fiber and measures what comes back, revealing splice loss, connector loss, breaks, and the overall attenuation budget of a run. MD Fiber Optic uses OTDR testing on every fiber installation we complete, and we also offer standalone OTDR testing and certification for existing infrastructure that was installed by someone else, or that needs to pass inspection before a building is occupied or a network goes live.
You receive a documented test report for every fiber strand tested, showing distance-to-fault data, splice and connector loss values, and a pass/fail result against the relevant loss budget — the kind of documentation property managers, IT directors, and inspectors expect to see.
